Effective immediately, Green Valley Evangelical Lutheran Church is suspending public worship for thirty days in cooperation with Governor Sisolak’s press conference. We appreciate his deference to the church in church and state matters. In my memory, Nevada has always been blessed with wonderful men (of either party) as governors. We will show our appreciation by cooperating with his wishes.
We do this in order that the COVID-19 pandemic may be robbed of an early and easy target for spreading. We encourage all our members to stay at home except for needed visits to the doctor’s, pharmacy, gas station or shopping center. Keep our police and fire departments in your special prayers. They will be first responders to COVID-19 victims. Remember our doctors, nurses and all hospital personnel. They will bear the burden of caring for the worst of the COVID-19 patients. May the Lord grant them wisdom and the greatest string of successes they have ever seen. Keep all of us in your prayers.
While we will not have public worship (Wednesday Lenten services at 11 am and 6:30 pm, and Sundays at 8 am and 10:30 am), we will be open during the week for private prayer and meditation and pastoral counseling and care. To preclude the possibility of any public gathering on Sunday mornings, the church will be closed completely.
Starting Sunday, March 22 at 8 am we will air a weekly service on our website, www.gvelc.com. We will have daily devotions, “Mighty Fortress” online starting Monday, March 23.
These actions will be in effect for the next thirty days and may be extended at the Governor’s request.
God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. Cast all your cares on him, for he cares for you. Of all people in the valley, we have hope.
Thank you for your concern, your care, and your prayers.
Praying for you and us all!
Pastor Don Pieper
